Phone patch

A phone patch is the makeshift connection of a radio station to the telephone network .

As a result, the radio connection can be used by participants who are not at the radio station, or telephone connections are available to the remote radio station . Since, in contrast to the telephone, full duplex is usually not possible with radio , the call participants must indicate when the other is to speak, e.g. B. with the request "answer" or "over". The operator listening in on the radio station with the phone patch then activates the send / receive switchover.

Phone patches are typically used on shortwave for marine or aeronautical radio , or by radio amateurs for emergency radio . The Military Affiliate Radio System arranged telephone calls for US soldiers overseas with their relatives in the US when the Internet was not yet available.
