The Pi Puppids are a meteor shower from the southern sky and cannot be observed from Central Europe. The radian is located in the constellation Puppis .
The activity of the pi-puppids is usually very low. However, increased meteor rates have been observed in the past, including in 1977 and 1982 when the ZHR was for a short time at 40 meteors per hour. During these years, the mother body 26P / Grigg-Skjellerup was in perihelion , which at that time was still within the earth's orbit. In the meantime, the planet Jupiter has steered this comet into a new orbit, so that its perihelion is now outside the earth's orbit. Therefore, the activity rates in future perihelion passages of the comet are uncertain.
