PlaNet Finance , since 2008 PlaNet Finance Group , is an international non-governmental organization that has set itself the goal of alleviating poverty worldwide through the development of microfinance (also: microfinance ). The association, based in Courbevoie , was founded in 1998 by Jacques Attali , a French economist and long-time advisor to François Mitterrand , and Arnaud Ventura in 1998 in Paris. PlaNet Finance operates in approximately 60 countries, has offices in approximately 40 countries and has more than 500 employees worldwide.

PlaNet Finance Deutschland eV (PFD), based in Berlin, is committed to the sustainable improvement of the living conditions of small businesses and smallholders affected by poverty by promoting income-generating activities.

The association is a member of the network of the international non-profit organization PlaNet Finance and was founded in December 2006.

The focus of the work is on the development of the microfinance sector in developing and emerging countries and the promotion of small businesses in the fight against poverty.

Project development

The association develops and implements projects in South America, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa, the Middle East and Asia, which are aimed at particularly disadvantaged target groups. In addition to small businesses in the informal sector, this also includes smallholders and, in particular, women, people with disabilities or those affected by illness.

Project focus: - Financial inclusion, especially rural microfinance - Financial education - Strengthening agriculture and agricultural value chains - Access to health services, such as micro-health insurance - Digital inclusion (mobile banking).

Since its inception, projects have been supported in Egypt, Benin, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Ghana, Madagascar, Oman, Israel, the Philippines, Senegal and South Africa.

Awareness Rising

The association participates in the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of microfinance in Germany and provides impetus for development policy dialogue. The "University Meets Microfinance" (UMM) program was launched in 2009 with the support of the European Commission and Freie Universität Berlin. The program aims to promote cooperation between science and practice in the microfinance sector. The focus of the program is on microfinance seminars and lectures in cooperation with partner universities in Europe as well as workshops with students, microfinance experts from practice and academics. In addition, four times a year scholarships are awarded to Bachelor, Master and PhD students.
