Table setting with a glass underplate

An underplate is a plate that, in contrast to the menu plates, is not lifted out during the meal or is only lifted before the main course.

The plates of the respective course are placed on the presentation plates. Thus, the underplate is flat and larger than common plates.

It serves to protect the tablecloth from contamination.

Charger plates are also used to represent and decorate the menu board .
