Plica interureterica

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The plica interureterica , also called plica ureterica or ureteral ridge , is a transverse fold of the mucous membrane in the form of a bar ( Latin plica = 'fold', plural : plicae ) of the urinary bladder , which is located between the two ureter openings .

Anatomical location

The interureteric plica is about 25 to 35 mm from the bladder outlet and is delimited by the two ureter openings. It arises from the intramural (in the bladder wall) course of the ureter ostia in the urinary bladder mucosa. The columnae uretericae are the converging continuations of the plica interureterica . On the dorsal side, the interureteric plica delimits the urinary bladder triangle ( trigonum vesicae ).
