PokerTH is free software that represents a computer simulation for the poker variant Texas Hold'em . The software is in all its parts under the GPL . The game has an artificial intelligence in the opponent engine, which controls up to nine powerful computer opponents. The game was programmed in the C ++ programming language using the Qt4 , Boost and SDL libraries and is available for the Windows , Linux and macOS platforms.

The project was started in 2006 by Florian Thauer and Felix Hammer, as there was no free poker program with computer opponents at that time . Version 0.1 has not yet been made available to the public. It already contained the complete graphic surface and could be played in Texas Hold'em (preflop) until the end of the first round . In October 2006, version 0.2 and a little later version 0.3 were published, which also enabled the further rounds of the game.
Version 0.4 was released on April 4, 2007. In addition to a completely new design and a completely re-programmed enemy engine, it contained an extensive settings dialog to adapt the program sequence to your own ideas.
After Lothar May joined the development team, version 0.5 was released on June 17, 2007. The most important innovations were network games in LAN and Internet , internationalization and sound support.
From version 0.6 of December 13, 2007 games can be played over the Internet. This automatically establishes a connection to a dedicated server that takes over the management of the online games and supports the SCTP protocol over IPv6 . As a result, online gaming has become much easier, as technical hurdles such as port forwarding behind routers and IP address forwarding are no longer applicable.
With version 0.8 online ranked games were introduced. To play these games, you have to be registered on PokerTH's own ranking website Poker-Heroes. In addition, live streams of ranked games are broadcast there at regular intervals. The number of languages translated has now risen to 25.
Version 0.9 of PokerTH has been available since January 4th, 2012. With this new release, the project introduces one of the most requested features: the ability to play a running internet game, e.g. B. rejoin after a disconnection. Since PokerTH 0.9.5 the game is also available as an app for Android via APK download.
The current version is 1.1.2. It was released on September 1, 2017.
