Polish smog alert

Polish Smog Alert (PAS) is an anti- smog movement that brings together local citizens' groups. They are committed to combating air pollution on a regional and national level.

founding

The Polish Smog Alert was created on February 10, 2015 through the merger of three initiatives: Cracow Smog Alert, Lower Silesian Smog Alert and Podhale Smog Alert.

One of the goals of the founding organizations was the amendment of the Environmental Protection Act, which enabled the municipal administrations to change the regulations on improving air quality. The regulations still in force in 2015 prevented the voivodship days (corresponding to the state parliaments in Germany) from taking anti-smog resolutions, which could a. wanted to introduce the ban on the use of the most harmful solid fuels as well as coal and wood boilers without class affiliation.

mission

The mission of the Polish Smog Alarm is to bring air quality to a level that does not exceed air quality norms throughout Poland. PAS perceives air pollution as a serious threat to the health and life of people living in Poland. Polish Smog Alert is a non-partisan organization that works with local government , non-governmental organizations and scientific circles.

The Polish Smog Alert posed eleven demands, which the movement believes must be met to improve air quality in Poland. These are u. a. the introduction of quality standards for hard coal and its control, the introduction of uniform standards and statutory emission guidelines for all coal and wood boiler systems, the dissemination of anti-smog decisions and the tightening of the limit values ​​for fine dust pollution at which the pollution alarm is triggered.

PAS coordinates and supports the operation of local smog alarms and acts at the national level with the aim of introducing organizational and legislative changes that will help improve air quality in Poland.

On June 16, 2019 there were 39 local citizens' groups in the structures of the Polish Smog Alert.
