Polycarp I.

Polycarp I († 89 in Byzantion ) was Bishop of Byzantion .

He was elected bishop in 71, three years after the death of his predecessor Onesimus, and remained in office for 18 years until his death.

The last eight years of his term of office were under the sign of the Domitian persecution of Christians .

Polycarp, like his predecessors, was buried in the church of Argyroupolis.
