Pomilio P types
The Pomilio P -types were two-seat fighter aircraft of the Italian Corpo Aeronautico Militare during the First World War .
Pomilio PC
The aircraft company of the brothers Alessandro and Ottorino Pomilio, the '' Fabbrica Aeroplani Ing. O. Pomilio '' initially designed the Pomilio PC . The PC had two open cockpits that were arranged one behind the other. The aircraft was powered by a 260 hp (191 kW) Fiat A.12 in-line engine. It arrived at the front as a reconnaissance aircraft in 1917, but was not considered stable enough under combat conditions.
Pomilio PD
The Pomilio PD had an improved cooling system. A total of 545 aircraft were manufactured by PC and PD, mostly of the PD type.
Pomilio PE
As an improved version, the Pomilio PE was developed with a larger tail unit and rudder and a more powerful Fiat A.12 engine.
1071 aircraft were manufactured by Pomilio in Italy and its US subsidiary in Indianapolis and armed with synchronized rigid front-mounted machine guns and movable observer machine guns. The planes proved their worth due to their high speed and climbing ability. They had about 30 squadrons in their inventory.
