Potluck ( pronunciation : [ pɑtˌlʌk ]; actually: "what is available (for food)") or potluck dinner is a type of unsolicited gathering common in the United States and elsewhere in church parishes, sports clubs, or other groups each participant brings a meal that is enough for several participants and is then shared with everyone. This way, buffets come together with little effort for the individual and the larger the group, the more varied the selection.

In Welsch Switzerland the Potluck is called "buffet canadien" or something similar, in German Switzerland in accordance mostly as Canadian buffet . Internationally there are other names, e.g. B. "Bring a plate" in Australia and New Zealand and in Germany "Bring party".
