Power Ledger ( POWR ) is an Australian blockchain-based cryptocurrency and energy trading platform founded in 2016 that enables the decentralized sale and purchase of renewable energies . The platform offers consumers access to a large number of energy markets worldwide and is intended to be scalable to various energy infrastructures and regulations. The market is based on a dual token ecosystem that operates on two blockchain layers, POWR and Sparkz. POWR tokens allow consumers and hosts who provide energy to interface with the ecosystem and are protected by smart bond technology. POWR tokens can be converted into Sparkz tokens which can be used for smooth transactions in the energy exchange market. The initial ICO for POWR tokens became the largest crowdfunding project in Australia and the 14th highest in the world , with funding of US $ 34 million .

A partnership with a Japanese power plant operator took place in August and December 2019. In January 2020, Power Ledger bought a 250 kilowatt photovoltaic system that will use a blockchain-based data management and billing system.
