A power station or energy station or jump start booster is a multifunctional mobile energy source, mostly based on a 12 volt lead battery , rarely with a lithium battery . Intended for the short-term operation of car accessories with a cigarette lighter plug and as a starting aid. Thanks to the built-in battery, it is moderately suitable for starting a car. With the sometimes built-in compressor, tires can be inflated, often a switchable light and recently a USB socket are included. In the household, the battery of a power station is kept ready for use via a mostly inefficient plug- in charger , and therefore - once discharged - it takes a relatively long charging time until it is fully operational again.

In the beginning, energy stations were often marketed via home shopping channels with unrealistic, exaggerated capabilities; today, they are usually sold via car accessories shops and hardware stores.
