Pre-combination

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As precoordination (engl. Precoordination , French. Précoordination , span. Precoordinación ) or Präkombination referred to a combination of descriptors in the indexing or in the preparation of used for indexing concept system . Occasionally, a more precise distinction is made between precoordination ( syntactic indexing ) and precombination (simple AND operation).

In contrast to pre- coordination, descriptors are only linked with the formulation of a search query in the context of information retrieval in post-coordination .

The classification of documents to be developed in the precoordination does not only include the selection of a suitable class, but also the combination of existing classes into a more complex term. Precoordination is therefore more precise and leads to a higher depth of indexing ; However, it is also more complex than the uncoordinated allocation of descriptors.

Examples of the pre-coordinated indexing are the formation of keyword chains according to the rules for the keyword catalog and the use of a facet classification such as the universal decimal classification .
