The premaster serves as a template for creating the glass master for the reproduction of a CD or DVD in a pressing plant . A CD-ROM or CD-Audio is a CD-R , a DVD is a DVD-R or two DLTs (DVD9). Since the glass master is a 1: 1 copy of the premaster, all media pressed from it correspond to the premaster. It is therefore important that the premaster is absolutely free of any defects. The control of this is part of the premastering .
