Preservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Preservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies , PREMIS for short , is an initiative that promotes the standard of the same name at the Library of Congress . The PREMIS standard aims to describe general metadata for digital long-term archiving in a structured manner.

In 2003 the international PREMIS working group was established by the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) and the en: Research_Libraries_Group (RLG). This developed the PREMIS Data Dictionary as a specification for metadata elements for the widest possible use in archives. In May 2005 the final report was published, which contained version 1.0 of the PREMIS Data Dictionary as well as practical assistance for the implementation of metadata in digital archive systems and corresponding XML schemes. Version 2.0 was released in March 2008, version 3.0 in June 2015.
