presto (Italian; "fast"; French vite ) is a musical performance designation that prescribes a fast to very fast tempo . With vivacissimo, Presto is one of the fastest musical tempos of all and is only occasionally attempted to increase with the tempo designation prestissimo (e.g. in some works by Beethoven ), "extremely fast".
