Primary standard sequence

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Primary standard sequence (PSS) is a term from Mayan research that refers to dedicatory inscriptions. It can be found on monuments, buildings and ceramics from graves. In vessels, it usually runs along the upper edge of the vessel. The PSS gives a consecration text, the owner and the name of the vessel. The glyphs , of which twenty-one characters are known, always appear in the same order and show only a few variants, which makes deciphering a lot easier, since the PSS is almost always introduced by the same introductory glyph.
