Professor Griff (2014)

Richard Griffin , stage name Professor Griff (born August 1, 1960 ) is a rapper and producer; he has been in the music business since 1988. His lyrics are political and provocative.

Life

Professor Griff was the PR manager of Public Enemy , a rap group with political texts , until June 1989 . His main task was to represent Chuck D. , the head of the band, in interviews or at press meetings.

In an interview for the Washington Times in 1989, Griff shocked with anti-Semitic remarks, praising the dictator Idi Amin with the words: "He rounded up all the Jews and killed them when they tried to infiltrate Uganda and take over the country." In another interview he had claimed that the “majority of Jews” were responsible for “the majority of the filth in this world”. The pressure on him and on Public Enemy was so great that Chuck D. Griffin fired from his team to ensure the continued existence of his band.

Professor Griff then formed his own band: Professor Griff & the Last Asiatic Disciple. With this band he released several records with Afrocentric and Islamist texts.

Professor Griff is now a member of Public Enemy again and as such is no longer just a press spokesman, but also a rapper. Since 2000 he has also fronted and co-founded the band 7th Octave , which is based in rap metal. 7th Octave is a six-member band trying to create a new, provocative fusion of rap and metal. They call their music ghetto metal .

Professor Griff's texts reflect radical Afrocentric views.
