The Progressive Corporation is a US insurance group based in Mayfield Village , Ohio . Progressive is one of the largest property insurance providers in the United States. The main focus is primarily on vehicle and home insurance.
The company was founded on March 10, 1937 by Joseph Lewis and Jack Green as the Progressive Mutual Insurance Company. Right from the start, the two lawyers focused their company on the insurance business for motor vehicles. The company's shares have been publicly traded since 1971 and in 1987 Progressive broke the $ 1 billion mark for the first time with its insurance premium income . In 2016, the $ 20 billion mark fell.
