Pilgrim Shrine Project

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pilgrimage shrine project is a worldwide initiative in which a pilgrim shrine with the image of the Mater Ter Admirabilis of Schoenstatt is passed on in a group, usually on a monthly basis.

The initiator of the pilgrim Mother of God was the Brazilian deacon and missionary João Pozzobon , who began in 1950 to carry the image of God into the world. This idea has spread worldwide since 1984 and in 2012 there are over 200,000 pilgrimage shrines in 92 countries.

Larger distribution in Germany only began in 1997 in preparation for the Holy Year 2000 . In January 2009 there were 5582 pilgrim shrines across Germany, which are passed on in pilgrimage circles with families and individuals, in nursing homes, hospitals, kindergartens, schools and youth groups.
