Pulau Ujong is the main island of Singapore . Pulau Ujong reaches an extension of 51 km, with a maximum width of about 21 km. The island is at its highest point 176 m above sea level. A large part of Singapore's population lives on the island on the Malacca Strait. The name Pulau Ujong was first documented in the 3rd century AD and probably comes from the language of the Orang Laut , who used to live here and who called the island the "last point of the country" ( Ujong Tanah ).
