Pulsation damper
Pulsation dampers are used in pump systems to compensate for the pulsations of discontinuously conveying pumps, for example reciprocating piston pumps and diaphragm pumps , and to achieve a constant conveying speed and quantity. Due to their operating principle, discontinuously conveying pumps, unlike z. B. centrifugal pumps , do not generate a uniform flow rate.
function
Inside a container there is a membrane that separates a volume of gas (e.g. air or nitrogen) from the pumped medium. During a pumping stroke, part of the pumped medium is absorbed by the pulsation damper and the gas bubble in the pulsation damper is compressed . If the volume flow delivered by the pump decreases, the gas bubble expands again and medium is returned to the connected system.
advantages
- Pressure surges, and thus mechanical loads, are reduced or avoided in the connected system parts.
- The stress on the pump is reduced.
- The sound emission from z. B. dosing systems is reduced.
