A pure tone is the color of a so-called pure tone system in an optically infinite (covering) layer.

A pure tone system is a pigmented system that contains only one pigment , i.e. only one chemically pure coloring substance.

On the other hand, one speaks of a full tone when the pure tone system is applied in a non-covering layer on z. B. white background is applied.
