Quench
The quench or quenching or quenching (from English to quench = "to delete") means:
- an optical effect, especially in fluorescence spectroscopy, see fluorescence quenching
- in cryogenics the transition from a superconductor to a normal conductor, see quench (superconductivity)
- in particle physics losses in counting individual particles, see scintillation counter
- in process engineering, the absorption of pollutants and heat, see plasma melting system
- In vacuum technology, a barrier volume to separate the working volume and the drive volume, see Roots compressor
- In material processing and finishing, rapid cooling to influence the aggregate states and material structure, see hardening (steel)
- in chemistry the rapid stopping of reactions that are taking place, see quenching (chemistry)
Quench was also the common brand name in Germany for a fizzy drink that was available in the 1980s
