A shear force dowel absorbs shear forces in a dilatation joint, allowing horizontal movements in the joint. A shear force dowel usually consists of a metal or plastic sleeve and a stainless steel or galvanized metal bolt. Shear force dowels are usually installed in order to avoid more complex and costly constructions such as double supports or supports.
