The RAL gGmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of the RAL German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labeling e. V. in the legal form of a non-profit GmbH , which u. a. the RAL colors are created and managed.

RAL colors
The RAL colors division defines and sells color systems and color standardizations worldwide (see RAL color ).
RAL environment
RAL Umwelt is the awarding authority for the Blue Angel eco- label and the EU Ecolabel. As the awarding authority for the use of marks by the Blue Angel, it accepts the individual applications of applicants from the industry, checks compliance with the requirements and the complete provision of evidence.
In November 1992 RAL received the order to award the European Ecolabel in Germany and was notified to the European Commission as a “Competent Body”. On the basis of currently 23 award criteria, applications for the award of the European eco-label can be submitted to RAL. If all specified requirements and evidence are met, RAL grants the right of use.
RAL logo license
The RAL Logo License division issues logo licenses on behalf of institutions such as Stiftung Warentest and at the same time takes on the prosecution of abuse.
Suppliers who would like to advertise their products and services with one of these Stiftung Warentest logos and test results must purchase a license from RAL gGmbH. You can choose between the “silver” and “gold” models (2015: 10,000 and 25,000 euros per year), with the gold model including cinema and TV advertising.
history
RAL German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labeling e. V. spun off its business areas RAL colors and environmental labels on August 29, 2008 into the newly founded RAL gGmbH. On July 1, 2013, RAL Logo License was set up as a new division.
