Radermecker complex

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Radermecker complexes are changes in the electroencephalogram (EEG), first described in 1949 by the Belgian neurologist and neurophysiologist Joseph Radermecker , which typically occur in subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) and in around two thirds of cases in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease . They are short complexes of steep and slow waves that recur in a rhythm of five to ten seconds. Radermecker complexes are also known as "PSWCs" (periodic sharp and slow wave complex).
