Radio Wien was a medium-wave broadcaster operated by Radio Verkehrs AG (RAVAG) in Vienna and the second oldest radio broadcaster in Austria.

RAVAG's weekly program guide was also called Radio Wien .

history

In February 1924, RAVAG received a license to "operate systems for wireless telephony". The first address was Stubenring 1 ( 1st district of Vienna ). In the building of the Federal Ministry for the Army , founded there in 1920, RAVAG received 14 rooms and a transmitter, which it initially had to share with what was then Aspern Airport .

The regular broadcast start on medium wave 530 meters was on October 1, 1924. A concert was broadcast at the opening. Bert Silving , who previously appeared on Radio Hekaphon , played Richard Wagner's compositions with his musicians .

So that Radio Vienna could also be received in western parts of Austria, RAVAG had a second transmitter installed on Vienna's Rosenhügel , which went into operation in 1926. Several intermediate stations followed, as well as the Bisamberg station and the construction of the Funkhaus Wien . The centralization of radio was expanded by RAVAG by adding various regional programs in Vienna, e.g. B. were produced for Salzburg.

With the takeover of RAVAG by the Deutsche Reichspost , Radio Wien became the so-called “ Reichssender Wien ”, part of the broadcasting chain of Großdeutscher Rundfunk .

In 1945 several stations were set up in the occupation zones of Austria , one of which was called Radio Wien . These radio stations were such. B. Red White Red under the supervision of the occupying power of the respective zone or the respective sector.
