Raoul Nehmé

Raoul Nehmé ( Arabic راوول نعمة, DMG Rāwūl Naʿma ; * 1955 or 1956) is a Lebanese banker and politician. From January to August 2020 he was Minister of Economics in the Diab cabinet .

Live and act

Nehmé graduated from the École Polytechnique de Paris with a degree in engineering in 1980 , an economics degree and an engineering degree specializing in scientific management from the École des Mines en France (1982). A banker by profession, he worked in various banks in Lebanon, Cyprus and Turkey. He then became General Manager of BLC Bank in Lebanon and, since June 2018, Managing Director of Bank Med, in which the Saad Hariris family holds the largest shares. He was also CEO of Turkland Bank in Turkey and a member of the Board of Directors of BankMed Swisse in Geneva. He is also the founder of an environmental sustainability NGO called Juzoor Lubnan .

On June 21, 2020, Nehmé, nominated by the Free Patriotic Movement , was appointed Minister for Economy and Trade in Hassan Diab's cabinet .

Nehmé is one of the most controversial decisions as he has visible links to the banking sector and is a shareholder in Cyprus' AstroBank alongside other prominent Lebanese business magnates. In June 2018 he was appointed Executive General Manager of the Lebanese Bankmed. He was also General Manager of BLC Bank in Lebanon, President of the Turkish Turkland Bank and a member of the Board of Directors of Bankmed Swisse in Geneva.

After Hassan Diab resigned as Prime Minister on August 10, 2020, the minister remained in office until a new cabinet was formed.
