Robbery (Switzerland)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss criminal law regulates the offense of robbery in Art. 140 of the Criminal Code as follows:

"Anyone who commits a theft with violence against a person or under threat of present danger to life or limb or after making the person concerned incapable of resistance is punished with imprisonment of up to ten years or a fine of not less than 180 daily rates."

Theft is also treated as robbery if the perpetrator is caught red-handed and acts of coercion in order to keep the stolen item.

Higher penalties are provided for committing the robbery if firearms or other dangerous weapons are carried in the act or if the victim is in danger of death, inflicts serious bodily harm or is treated cruelly.
