The Ural Legal Defense Group (Russian: Уральская правозащитная группа ) is a non-governmental organization in Chelyabinsk , Russia , which is committed to human rights.

The association provides information, organizes events and campaigns. It advises citizens on their rights and supports them in setting up their own activities with methodological, legal and organizational support.

The group maintains the Ural Democratic Foundation, which critically examines the situation in the prison system in the oblast and supports those affected by physical abuse and inhumane working conditions. The chairman is Nikolai Shchur.

history

The group was founded in 2013. In 2014 she was asked to register as a “ foreign agent ”. On February 15, 2016, she was registered as such at the Ministry of Justice because she had received money from the Norwegian Helsinki Committee.
