Reconnect

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A reconnect refers to the disconnection and re-establishment of the Internet connection , often with the aim of getting a new IP address assigned by the Internet provider .

In order to perform a reconnect, the DSL modem (which can be a separate device or can be built into a DSL router) is usually instructed to disconnect the connection. This often happens via the web interface that most DSL modems have. The process can be automated by imitating the HTTP requests that are sent to the router when the "Disconnect" and "Connect" buttons are pressed. There are ready-made programs for this purpose , such as RouterControl , which support several DSL routers or DSL modems, but it is also possible to write your own script for them without any problems . If a DSL router or DSL modem cannot be controlled via a network connection , a reconnect can also be achieved by briefly interrupting the power supply . This approach has the major disadvantage that it cannot be automated.

Reconnects are often used in the one-click hosting sector to avoid the waiting time after downloading a file. Many of the download managers (e.g. for RapidShare ) offer for this purpose to execute any script after each successful download .

A disconnection of an Internet connection triggered by the Internet service provider is called a forced disconnection .
