A rain clarification basin ( RKB ) is a settling basin for the treatment of polluted rainwater in a separation system with an integrated separation of light materials . One distinguishes

  • Rain clarification basin with permanent damming ( RKBmD ): Rain clarification basin that is constantly filled with water and from which the sediments are removed only at larger time intervals
  • Rain clarifier without permanent storage ( RKBoD rain clarifier, which after each:) impounding is completely emptied, and therefore with a pump . Ä o must be equipped..

In soil filter systems , RKB are mandatory construction components with three main functions:

  • Hydraulically, they are used to delay and smooth inflow peaks.
  • In terms of material, they serve as a mixing and balancing medium for load peaks
  • In terms of material, they are used for pre-cleaning through light material separation and sedimentation. The removal of particulate matter effectively lowers the risk of colmation in the downstream floor filter.

In 2007, 3194 rain clarification basins with a storage volume of around 2.7 million cubic meters were in operation in Germany.
