Deer garden

The deer garden ( Estonian Kitseaed ) is a park in the Estonian capital Tallinn ( German  Reval ).

It is located at the foot of Reval Toompea on the west side of Süsternstrasse (Estonian: Nunne tänav ) opposite the confluence of Breite Strasse ( Lai tänav ) in Reval's old town.

The small park was laid out in the otherwise densely built-up city center of Reval in 1927. In 1930 the Metskits sculpture, which was created by Jaan Koort in 1929 and depicting a deer , was installed in the park. The sculpture has been stolen repeatedly in the past, but has been replaced each time. The deer refers to the legend according to which the Danish king hunted a deer, which then falls from the cliffs of Toompea. According to legend, the name Reval refers to this incident as a deer fall .

In 1952, benches were set up and stairs were laid, which initially existed until 1980. In 2018, the park was renovated for around € 110,000.
