Imperial Swedish
Imperial Swedish (Swedish rikssvenska ) has several different meanings. One understands it
- the Swedish typically spoken in the Empire ( Sweden ) . In this meaning it is in contrast to Finland Swedish and Estonian Swedish, i.e. the Swedish spoken outside of Sweden.
- the standard (written) Swedish language as taught in school or as a foreign language . However, this is almost exclusively limited to the written language , as there is no spoken variant of Swedish recognized as “Standard Swedish” in all of Sweden (similar to German, for example ). For spoken Swedish, a distinction is made between several regional acrolects , which can clearly differ in prosody and phonetics and to a lesser extent in vocabulary and grammar .
- as spoken Imperial Swedish (swed. talad rikssvenska ) a balancing dialect or idiolect that is used both when communicating with someone who does not speak and understand their own dialect, as well as in a public context.
