Remastersys is a free open source script for Debian and Ubuntu with the following features:

  • Creation of customized live CDs or DVDs (remasters) of Ubuntu and its derivatives.
  • Backups of entire systems, including user data, on installable live CDs.

The program is available in a command line version and a version with a graphical user interface. Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distributions are currently supported.

history

Remastersys was originally programmed to simply create backups or copies of a running Ubuntu installation. The idea came from the mklivecd script used by Mandriva and the remasterme script for PCLinuxOS . The program was rewritten from scratch because these scripts were not easily portable.

In April 2013 the further development of the original maintainer was stopped. Also in April 2013 a fork of the project was created where the sources are available.
