The Renault RS20 is the Formula 1 - racing cars from Renault for the Formula 1 World Championship 2020 . It is Renault's 25th Formula 1 car. The first photo excerpts of the car were published on February 12, 2020, an official presentation did not take place.
Technology and development
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of 2020, the Renault RS20 is a rear-wheel drive monoposto with a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) . In addition to the monocoque, many other parts of the vehicle, including the body parts and the steering wheel, are made of CFRP. The brake discs are also made from a composite material reinforced with carbon fibers.
Since the technical regulations for the 2020 season remained largely stable, the RS20 has largely been developed from the previous RS19 model.
The RS20 is powered by a 1.6-liter V-6 engine of Renault in the middle of the vehicle with turbocharger and a 120 kW strong electric motor , so it is a hybrid electric vehicle . The car's sequential gearbox has eight gears. The gear change is triggered by paddles on the steering wheel. The vehicle has only two pedals, an accelerator pedal (right) and a brake pedal (left). Just like many other functions, the clutch , which is only used when starting from a standstill, is operated via a lever on the steering wheel.
The vehicle is 2000 mm wide, the width between the front and rear axles is 1600 mm and the height is 950 mm. The front wing is 2000 mm wide, the rear wing 1050 mm and 820 mm high. The diffuser is 175 mm high and 1050 mm wide. The car is equipped with 305 mm wide front tires and 405 mm wide rear tires from the standard supplier Pirelli , which are mounted on 13-inch wheels.
Like all Formula 1 vehicles since 2011 , the RS20 has a Drag Reduction System (DRS) that reduces the drag of the vehicle on the straights by flattening part of the rear wing , if it is allowed to be used. The DRS is also activated with a switch on the steering wheel of the car.
The RS20 is equipped with the Halo system , which provides additional protection for the driver's head.
Painting and sponsorship
The RS20 was painted in black on the first published photos and during the test drives before the season, with white sponsor stickers and yellow start numbers. As part of the originally planned season opener in Australia , however, the final paint job was, as in previous years, mostly yellow and black.
In addition to the manufacturer Renault , BP , Castrol , DuPont de Nemours , Genii Capital , Infiniti , Mapfre , Microsoft and RCI Banque advertise on the vehicle.
driver
Renault will compete in 2020 with the driver pairing Esteban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo . Ricciardo is contesting his second season for the team, Ocon is switching from Mercedes , where he was test and reserve driver, to Renault, replacing Nico Hülkenberg .
