Reto M. Hilty

Reto M. Hilty (born January 27, 1958 in Zurich ) is a Swiss legal scholar and director at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich .

biography

Hilty studied mechanical engineering at the ETH Zurich up to the first intermediate diploma and then law at the University of Zurich . In 1989 the doctorate took place . From 1994 to 1997 Hilty worked as a department head and member of the board of directors of the Swiss Federal Institute for Intellectual Property in Bern and completed his habilitation in 2000 with the Venia Legendi for civil, intellectual property, competition and media law. After a long stay at New York University , Hilty accepted a position as professor for technology and information law at ETH Zurich. Since January 2001 he has been director and academic member of the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law in Munich, a part-time professor at the University of Zurich and honorary professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

Reto Hilty played a key role in the amendment to German copyright law and is a sought-after speaker around the world on issues relating to the internationalization of copyright and media law .

His research areas are, in particular, contract law for intangible goods, licensing law , competition law and protection of intangible goods, the information highway , fundamental questions about property rights and new technologies, and international property rights harmonization.

Hilty is a member of the German Civil Law Teachers ' Association, the Association International pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle, the German Society for Intellectual Property and Copyright, the German Society for Law and Informatics, the Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale and the Licensing Executive Society.
