Retrocession

Retrocession is a "reinsurance" - to reduce and spread the risk . There are z. B. a reinsurer passes on parts of a portfolio to the retrocessionaire. The same forms of reinsurance occur. Technically, it is a business to be reinsured that is already reinsured, which serves to relieve the financial burden on the primary reinsurer.

The reinsurer who takes over some of the retrocession's business is called retrocessionaire . The retrocessionaire for his part can at the same time be a retrocedent and retrocede the acquired portfolio to other reinsurers, i.e. hand it over .
