With recipe collection , the German chemist law refers to a special mailbox in places without their own pharmacy, can deposits in customer recipes to them from the pharmacy to have them delivered.

The establishment of a prescription collection point requires the permission of the authority; this is granted for three years and can be extended. The prescription collection point must give the pharmacy's exact address and the times when it is empty; the medicine must then be personally delivered to the customer. Prescription collection points may not be set up in commercial establishments (i.e. in supermarkets or other shops) and not in medical practices. As a rule, recipe collection points can therefore be found in a central place such as the village square. The number of prescription collection points differs depending on the federal state; 79 recipe collection points were set up in Thuringia in 2019.

In principle, every licensed pharmacy in Germany can set up prescription collection points at any location. If two pharmacies want to set up a prescription collection point in the same location, the distance in meters decides on the surcharge, regardless of traffic conditions (e.g. seasonal ferry connections).

With the death of pharmacies in Germany, prescription collection points are becoming increasingly common.
