The Richard-Schirrmann-Realschule is a former Realschule in Altena , which was closed after the end of the 2016/2017 school year.
Name and story
The facility was named after Richard Schirrmann , who had a defining influence on the city and its history. He founded the first temporary youth hostel in 1907 and moved to Altena Castle in 1912 . This was located in the old building of the school, at that time still called Netterschule. The old building was demolished in the 1960s. Then the school was completely rebuilt in its current form. In 1998 the secondary school moved into the last building used.
building
The school had a gym, a school kitchen, a student library, a technical room, a school garden, a computer room and a biology, physics and chemistry room. Since the 2007/2008 school year, the school has been the first school in Altena to use the concept of the teacher's room system . This was a response to the increasing pollution and damage in the classrooms. For the 2009/2010 school year, a cafeteria was built in the school's old swimming pool during the summer holidays .
partnership
A partnership with the ThyssenKrupp subsidiary VDM has existed since 2006 . ThyssenKrupp VDM preferred to offer internship and apprenticeship positions to secondary school students.
