Russian Theater Riga

The Russian Theater Riga , also colloquially known as the Russian Theater or RTR, is a Russian-language theater in Riga , Latvia and is the oldest Russian drama theater outside Russia.

history

The theater opened on October 2, 1883 with the premiere of I. Shpanzinsky's "The Major's Wife".

Since 1990 Eduards Cehovals, former general director (until November 2017), has invited many directors from Russia and other countries to enrich the artistic offer. The theater also works regularly with young Latvian production directors (Elmars Senkovs, Inese Pudzha, Inese Mitcshule) and promotes cultural dialogue in every format and at all levels.

In 2006 it was named after Michael Chekhov .

In 2010 the RRT opened its season in the renovated and refurbished building.

Since January 8, 2018, the theater has been managed by Dana Bjorka, board member and managing director.

program

The theater program includes Russian and Latvian dramaturgical works as well as children's and musical productions. The theater also offers its program on tours.
