Ring Magdeburg football clubs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ring Magdeburger Fußball-Vereine (RMFV) was a local football association in the city of Magdeburg . The association was founded in 1897. Seven clubs played a mixture of football with and without picking up the ball, i.e. association and rugby football. Five of the seven participating clubs were named, "FC Gut Stoss 1894" and "FuCC Regatta 1895", which later became part of the FuCC Cricket-Viktoria 1897 Magdeburg , as well as "Magdeburger SC von 1895", "FC Eintracht 1897" (later FC Britannia) and "FC Sturm 1898".

The Ring Magdeburger Fußball-Vereine failed to try to reinvent the soccer game and to adapt it to the German mentality. This did not attract any interest from players or spectators, as both sports had long since separated. Called "the German game" it was a mixture of association and rugby. Since the rules had been “awkwardly drafted and a player was subject to many restrictions due to a difficult offside”, it could not last long. In addition, "the German game" was unknown outside the Magdeburg city limits, which meant that no foreign opponents could be won for friendly games. If the "German game" dominated in 1896 and was presumably maintained by the "Magdeburg Football and Cricket Association" that existed at the time, ie even before the RMFV was founded, interest in it decreased again in 1897 and in 1898 it died out completely.

In 1897 there were cup games for the City Council Shepherd's Silver Cup , donated by a city councilor , which the FuCC Cricket-Viktoria 1897 Magdeburg won with a 4: 1 in the final against the Magdeburger SC of 1895.

After only a few months, the association was dissolved again in 1898.
