Rio Branco Institute

The Rio Branco Institute (Portuguese: Instituto Rio Branco ), founded in 1945, is the diplomatic academy of Brazil . Its seat is in Brasília .

The institute is named after the deputy and foreign minister José Maria da Silva Paranhos , Baron of Rio Branco (Barão do Rio Branco), who at the beginning of the century (1902–1912) operated the definition and consolidation of the national borders of Brazil. He also contributed extensively to the modernization of the Palácio do Itamaraty , the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The institute serves to train future diplomats in the country. Applicants must pass preliminary exams in order to be able to go through further training levels. A graduate and postgraduate program is offered with studies in history, politics and foreign policy, economics, law, and languages ​​such as English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Arabic.

Graduates are accepted into the diplomatic service. Journalists and employees in the field of foreign trade and other public administration bodies can obtain further training on foreign policy issues at the institute.
