Crack growth rate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The crack propagation speed da / dN reflects the crack propagation (da) that is generated per load change (dN). Here, a is the crack length divided by the diameter of the component cross-section. (Depending on the location of the crack and the geometry of the component, i.e. the ratio of the crack length already reached to the length at which failure occurs, i.e. the component is completely torn through)

The speed of crack propagation depends on the level of load , the type of load, the material considered, as well as the surrounding medium and temperature .
