The Riverbend Music Center (also known as the J. Ralph Corbett Pavilion ) is an amphitheater in Cincinnati, Ohio .
History and use
The theater was built from June 2, 1983 to July 4, 1984 on an area of 61,000 square meters and designed by Michael Graves. The construction costs amounted to around nine million US dollars . In 1999 and 2009 the amphitheater was renovated. The event site offers space for 20,500 visitors and, together with the PNC Pavilion, is part of the Hulbert Taft Jr. Center for the Performing Arts complex. The venue was originally built for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra , but rock music concerts by artists such as Eric Clapton ( 1990 ) and The Who were also held here. After 11 people were killed at a The Who concert on December 3, 1979, a large number of promoters avoided the site. However, it reopened in 1984.
