Federal popular initiative «Protection against razors»

On April 27, 2010, RoadCross Switzerland launched the federal popular initiative “Protection against razors”. The initiative committee "Protection against rages" consisted of relatives of road traffic victims, RoadCross Switzerland and members of all parliamentary groups and numerous parties in Swiss politics from left to right. According to the text of the initiative, the aim of the initiative was to get 1,000 dangerous speeders off the road every year. The initiative demanded that speeders should be appropriately punished if their driver's license is withdrawn for a long time - in the event of repetition, for life - and the vehicle confiscated. So that it is not left to the arbitrariness of the judges to determine who is considered a speedster and who is convicted. According to the initiative, frenzy should be codified as a qualified criminal offense in the federal constitution .

The Raser definition is based on fixed speed limits (u. A. 100 km / h in urban areas , 140 km / h outside cities, 200km / h on the highway ), but rough in other forms of due diligence injuries such. B. illegal car races on public roads. According to the initiative, speeders no longer have to drive someone to death before they are severely punished. It is sufficient to consciously endanger other road users and thus accept the high risk of an accident with seriously injured or fatalities.

The popular initiative was submitted to the Federal Chancellery on June 15, 2011 with 105,763 valid signatures. On May 9, 2012, the Federal Council rejected the initiative with reference to the federal traffic safety package " Via sicura ". One day after the initiative was submitted, most of the initiative issues were incorporated into this new bill. This would take into account the legitimate concerns of the initiators, according to the Federal Council. Via sicura and with it the tightened measures against speeders came into force on January 1, 2013, which prompted the initiators of the popular initiative “Protection against speeders” to withdraw their initiative on November 4, 2012, as the new legislation corresponds to the concerns of the initiative .
