Robert E. Doan

Robert Eachus Doan (born July 23, 1831 in Wilmington , Ohio , †  February 24, 1919 there ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Doan attended public schools in his home country and then enjoyed an academic education. He then taught as a teacher in southern Ohio for three years. After studying law at the Cincinnati Law School and being admitted to the bar in 1857, he began working in this profession in Wilmington. Between 1859 and 1860 he published the Wilmington Watchman newspaper. In 1862 he was a district attorney in Clinton County there . Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1890 Doan was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded William E. Haynes on March 4, 1891 . Since he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party in 1892, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1893 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Doan practiced as a lawyer in Washington. He died on February 24, 1919 in his hometown of Wilmington, where he was also buried.
