Robert W. Laing

Robert W. Laing (born before 1960) is a British art director and production designer who not only won an Oscar for best production design but also an Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild .

Life

Laing began his career as an art director and set designers in the film industry in 1960 with the movie A mink on the hook (Make Mine Mink) and worked until 2000 at the scenic features of thirty films and television series with.

In 1973 , together with John Box and Gil Parrondo, he was nominated for an Oscar for best production design for the comedy Traveling With My Aunt (1972) by George Cukor with Maggie Smith , Alec McCowen and Louis Gossett Jr.

At the Academy Awards 1983 he won the Academy Award with Stuart Craig and Michael Seirton for Gandhi (1982) by Richard Attenborough with Ben Kingsley , Candice Bergen and Edward Fox .

In 1988, along with Francesco Chianese, George Richardson and Hugh Scaife, he was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Art Design in the first episode of the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) -produced television series Noble House (1988) starring Pierce Brosnan , Deborah Raffin and Ben Masters .

Together with Martin Laing, Charles Dwight Lee, Neil Lamont, Bill Rea, Steven Lawrence and Héctor Romero, he received the 1997 Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild (ADG) for Titanic (1997) by James Cameron with Leonardo DiCaprio , Kate Winslet and starring Frances Fisher .
