from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert of Thwing (also Robert II of Thwing or Thweng ) († between 1172 and 1199) was an English knight.

Robert of Thwing came from the northern English family Thwing . He was a son of Robert I of Thwing . Before 1166 he had inherited his father's estates and, as a vassal of William de Percy, owned estates with a knight's fee in Legsby , Holtham and Ludford in Lincolnshire . Presumably as a vassal of Adam de Brus he was also the owner of Thwing in east Yorkshire . Robert II married Emma Darel who, together with her two sisters , inherited Duncan Darel's property near Lund in east Yorkshire after the death of their brother Duncan Darel . Through this inheritance, Thwing became a vassal of the Bishops of Durham . He donated property to Sixhills Priory in Lincolnshire and the rights to Legsby Church.

Robert of Thwing died in 1199 at the latest. His heir was his son Marmaduke I of Thwing († after 1234).
